Tag-athon (3 tags in 1 post)

Is tag-athon a thing? Because I just made it up. I’ve been tagged for quite a few tags lately and don’t worry I didn’t forget about it! I need to catch up, so instead of doing them all separately, I’ll do three in one post.

The New York Times by the Book Tag

I was tagged by Debbie to do this tag, thank you Debbie. Check out her post here.

What was the last truly great book you’ve read?

30849412

The One Memory of Flora Banks? This was the last book I rated 5 stars on goodreads, and I have to say it was pretty great!

If you could meet any writer – dead or alive – who would it be? And what would you want to know?

I don’t particularly want to meet anyone, but maybe Jane Austen? She seems like a cool person. I have no idea what I would want to know though.

How do you organize your personal library?

It was supposed to be on genre but now it’s a bit of a mess. I’ve got one small shelf with TBR books and one with all the books I have read.

What book have you always meant to read and haven’t gotten around to yet?

The Percy Jackson series, all of Sarah J. Maas’ books, The Lorien Legacies. I really want to read the Lorien Legacies, I’ve already read the first book (I Am Number Four) and I loved it. I’ve heard it gets only better.

Disappointing, overrated, just not good: what book did you feel you are supposed to like but didn’t?

1984 by George Orwell. It’s one of those classics everybody recommends, but I just didn’t like it. And also Lord Of The Rings, I just thought it was really boring.

What kind of stories are you drawn to? Any you stay clear of?

I am drawn to magical realism, fantasy, contemporary books with a twist (the not so ordinary books). I stay clear of books with as only theme romance, horror books, thrillers, and maybe even Dutch books. I just don’t ever seem to like Dutch literature. Which seems weird because I am Dutch.

What do you plan to read next?

Emma by Jane Austen.

The Mulan Book Tag

I love Mulan and this tag is therefore perfect! Thank you so much Emma for tagging me. Read her post here.

  1. “When will my reflection show who I am inside?” – An inaccurate book cover that doesn’t really reflect what the book is about.

I don’t understand how this cover has anything to do with the book, why the domino’s? I own the edition with Liesel and death dancing, which seems much more fitting for the book.

  1. Mushu – a character with a lot to prove.

Cia from the Testing series by Joelle Charbonneau. I mean she has to survive the Testing!! The Testing, is a test in which the students are smart enough to become leaders. This doesn’t sound very intimidating, but since 90% of the students died or disappeared, it’s pretty damn intimidating.

  1. “I’ll make a man out of you!” – A character who develops the most or a book with some kick-ass training scenes.

Lia from the Remnant Chronicles by Mary E. Pearson, she changes so much and there are bad-ass fighting scenes too.

  1. “A girl worth fighting for,” – A ship you will defend until your last breath.

Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy.

  1. Huns – A book/character that gives you the creeps.

16078220

The Ocean at the End of the Lane creeps me out. It is the first and only book by Neil Gaiman I’ve ever read, and to be honest it has kept me from reading any other book by Neil Gaiman. Even though it is, according to my friend, completely not representable of his books.

  1. Mulan – your favourite badass female protagonist.

Lia from The Remnant Chronicles and Cinder from The Lunar Chronicles

The School Book Tag

It’s been almost 2.5 years since I left high school, where has the time gone? I was a bit of a science nerd too, just like Eve haha. Eve tagged me to do this tag, thank you! Check out her post here.

MATHS – A book that has two characters who equal perfection

cover_shiver_300

Shiver and the rest of The Wolves of Mercy Falls by Maggie Stiefvater! Grace and Sam are so perfect together and they’re both amazing people. Sam is one of my absolute favourite male characters! I’ve had the urge to reread this series for a few weeks now and I just need to reread it!!

BIOLOGY – A book I would like to dissect

4588

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, haha yeah that book again. This is my favourite book and it has not only an amazing (hug-worthy) nine-year old main character, but it is also about heavy subjects, death, 9/11, bombings in Dresden, lost love, and so much more. When you’ve read it once, you just need to read it again to see how it all fits together.

PHYSICS – A book with a lot of potential

32855597

Class: The Stone House by A.K. Benedict. CLASSSSSS!!!!!!!!! Ahhh they’re making books based on the series :O I’m sad it isn’t written by Patrick Ness though..

CHEMISTRY – A book I really bonded to

30849412

The One Memory of Flora Banks by Emily Barr. I’m going with this book again because the main character really deserves a place in my heart.

ENGLISH – A book that should be a modern classic

18460392

All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. It first claims a place in your heart and then shatters it. This book is like a Trojan horse, you are kind of suspicious whether you’re going to get out okay but you just ignore it and read on, and before you notice it, it’s too late and you’re crying on the floor.

P.E. – A book that I raced to the finish with

30285632

Someone Else’s Summer by Rachel Bateman. I read the second half of this book in one night.

MUSIC – A book that reminds me of a song

20983362

Passenger by Alexandra Bracken. It’s more the other way around actually, sometimes I listen to a song and it reminds me so much of  this book. That happened quite a lot of times already.

I tag…

If you’ve already been tagged to do this, or you just don’t want to do it, that’s okay!

Sorry wordpress is a bit broken, I can’t see who’s following me, so I had to improvise and tagged only a few people. Also sorry for the incredibly long post, I hope you enjoyed it. Have you read any of the books and are you as much in love with Sam as I am?

  1. A great way to combine all the tags you still have to do! And I love Mulan as well, that is one of my favorite Disney movies. And I think it has been 4 years since I left High School, I feel old right now 😛

    1. I felt like I was drowning in tags I still wanted to do and I didn’t want to spam everybody with posts.
No need to feel old haha, I think we’re about the same age, or not…? I’m 20 🙂

    1. I don’t think you should compare books like that, I mean both The Fault in our Stars and All the Bright Places are great books (okay, ATBP is amazing!), but they’re completely different, in everything. They’re not even both about the same topic. They’re both a love story, they’re both tragic and they’re both YA but that doesn’t mean you should put this sticker on it: “if you liked TFIOS you should read this!” I’m getting frustrated about this topic and I didn’t even knew I could get frustrated about this haha
      Thanks for commenting 🙂

      1. No I completely agree – it irks me so, so much when book publishers advertise books as the next this or the next that. All books deserve a chance to be read without having expectations set for them in advance based on books they’re supposedly similar to, even though they truly aren’t. It’s a topic I get pretty frustrated about, too.

      2. Yes exactly! I don’t like that they try to “trick” you into reading books this way. Just because you liked that book that they advertised it with, doesn’t mean you also will like this one!
